Gatekeeper Has Equipped 28,000 Public Transportation Vehicles as Foundation of its PaaS Platform for Smart Cities
Abbotsford, BC – July 21, 2020 – Gatekeeper Systems Inc. (‘Gatekeeper’ or the ‘Company’) (TSX-V: GSI) (OTC: GKPRF) (FSE: 1GK) a leading provider of intelligent video solutions for public transport and smart cities, reports that over the past seven years the Company has installed approximately 28,000 intelligent mobile data collectors and 97,000 video cameras on school buses, transit buses and trains, which forms the foundation of the Company’s recently-introduced PaaS business model.
“We have been steadily building out a data platform that allows public transportation vehicles to be interconnected in Smart City initiatives,” said Doug Dyment, CEO of Gatekeeper. “Our intelligent devices are being used by some of the largest transit authorities and school districts in North America, and we have delivered our solution to over 3,500 public transportation customers. We believe that technology will become increasingly more important as cities emerge from recent lockdowns and we now intend to maximize our advantage, having built out this data capability.”
Gatekeeper’s Platform-as-a-Service (“PaaS”) business model is centered around the intelligent mobile data collectors that the Company is actively installing on multiple modes of public transportation. The intelligent devices collect vehicle data such as video, audio, GPS, time, door open/close, and serve as the “black box” to aid in transit accident investigations. Video evidence data is also used by transit authorities to protect against fraudulent claims. The PaaS units are WiFi enabled, mobile connected, or mobile enabled, allowing public transport assets to become part of the intelligent transportation solution in a Smart City ecosystem.
The PaaS platform will also serve as the AI-based intelligence platform for future applications such as thermal camera sensors, passenger counting and contact tracing. The Company is actively evaluating value added solutions that can layer on the PaaS platform, including new innovations that may be desired by transit authorities and Smart Cities during and following the COVID-19 pandemic, such as contact tracing, bus loading and intelligent routing.
The Company’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions are a key component within the PaaS platform and allow video evidence to be quickly extracted from thousands of hours of video records, which is especially important for passenger transportation safety and security. AI also has the potential to evolve conventional video into machine-vision intelligence to automatically record, alarm, enforce, or take action without human interaction in applications such as abnormal driver behavior, abnormal passenger behavior, passenger counting, or license plate capture and ticketing of vehicles illegally driving in the bus lane or passing streetcars or school buses while passengers are loading or unloading.
