Gatekeeper Launches New School Bus Vision Technology to Protect Kids from Stop-Arm Violators
Abbotsford, BC — October 30, 2018 — Gatekeeper Systems Inc. (“Gatekeeper” or the “Company”) (TSX.V: GSI; OTC: GKPRF; FSE: 1GK)unveiled its new SP25 10-megapixel dual-camera system today featuring crystal clear image quality and superior range, which will make it a powerful new weapon in the fight against school bus stop-arm violators. The compact, quick to install system attaches to the side of school buses and provides outstanding picture quality in bright, low-light, and night-time conditions between 98 to 164 feet (30 to 50 metres) with coverage across multiple highway lanes.
“This system is a game-changer: It’s going to ensure a safer environment for kids in and around school buses, and provide peace of mind for operators, administrators, legislators and, most of all, parents,” says Doug Dyment, President and CEO of Gatekeeper. The SP25 is being unveiled this week at the National Association of Pupil Transportation (NAPT) conference in Kansas City, Missouri. He added, “It’s a powerful deterrent to drivers thinking about running the stop-arm sign and will provide the legal system with irrefutable evidence when prosecuting those who commit this unforgiveable crime.”
“Keeping kids safe is at the very core of our business,” says Dyment. “Yet, with more than an estimated 15 million stop-arm violations per year in the United States alone, we are reminded that kids are very much at risk. Sadly, we saw a horrific accident in Colquitt County, Georgia last week when one child was killed, and his brother seriously injured by a stop-arm violator. Frankly, it’s senseless crimes like this that drive us to build better products.”
He says that: “While stop arm technology may not prevent all deaths and injuries, it should reduce incidents by reminding violators that they will receive a serious fine if they don’t stop and law enforcement will have video footage as part of its evidence program when prosecuting violators.”
The SP25 builds on Gatekeeper’s proven technology by offering a multi-lane viewing licence plate capture capability, a high-speed licence plate tag reader, and cellular network compatibility ready for remote, auto downloading of stop arm violations. And it features an integrated Global Positioning System with time, date, and vehicle sensors which meet State regulations and laws. This means that authorities can issue tickets to violators putting real teeth in the legislation designed to keep kids and operators safe. Photos of day and night operations are provided at the bottom of this release.
Each camera weighs just 1.1lbs (500 grams) and measures 2.8” X 4.4” X 2.7” (70mm X 113mm X 68mm and has a base diameter of 3” X 3.5“ (8cm X 9cm). Units can operate in the harshest of weather and are rated from -40°Fto +158°F(-40℃ to +70℃).
The NAPT conference hosts more than 600 delegates from across North America who are focused on the latest in school bus transportation including developments that provide a safe passage on and around the bus.
Night and day: Gatekeeper unveiled its new camera system that captures the licence plates of stop-arm violators in a range of conditions from daylight to night-time. This makes the area in and around school buses safer for kids and provides a powerful tool to law enforcement and school bus authorities.
