Gatekeeper Expands Stop Arm Camera Technology in Utah with Test Program with Alpine School District
Abbotsford, BC February 24 th , 2014 – Gatekeeper Systems Inc. (“Gatekeeper” or the “Company”) (TSX.V: GSI) is pleased to announce the expansion of its stop arm camera technology to the State of Utah through a testing program with Alpine School District (“Alpine”).
Alpine will be the first school district in Utah outfitted with Gatekeeper stop arm camera technology as part of a testing program to monitor stop arm violations. “We are in the process of gathering real time accurate data that proves to law makers just how dangerous stop arm violations are and the importance to have stronger enforcement legislation in place. We hope to bring awareness to the community in order to deter stop arm violations which put children’s lives at risk” said Shaun Adams, System Specialist for Alpine School District.
Adams added, “We have approximately 300 violations each year that are reported on our worst routes and many more that are not reported. It’s a serious problem. Gatekeeper has taken an innovative approach with their imaging technology which provides multiple infrared high speed license plate reading cameras combined with vehicle and driver identification cameras which provides irrefutable evidence of the violation. Gatekeeper has provided the most reliable system with the best imaging out of all the competitors we have used”.
Over 15 million stop arm violations are projected in 2014. The average fine is USD $250 for first time offense.
Doug Dyment, President and CEO of Gatekeeper stated, “Alpine is using our internal video systems to keep an accurate record of what is happening inside their buses, creating a safer environment for their students. With the new testing program of our license plate reading technology for capturing stop arm violators, Alpine has a tool to help provide an awareness program which will assist in creating a safer environment outside their buses while students enter and exit.”
Gatekeeper’s technology is now being used in a number of school districts throughout various States and Provinces. Trademarked Student Protector, the multi-camera system has high- powered capabilities to record vehicle license plates, vehicle identification, and provide GPS coordinates. Further, when the stop arm is engaged, other meta data is synchronized to date and time, creating an evidence package law enforcement can use to issue a citation.
In addition, Gatekeeper has a cloud based software application which manages the entire ticketing and collection process, providing an end-to-end solution, which allows the Company to partner with Counties and School Districts in an effort to reduce stop arm violations through an effective enforcement system.
