You need access to information fast. Running from bus to bus to download incidents puts pressure on budgets and leaves employees frustrated. We have a solution!
Certified. Proactive. Rugged Design.
With today’s fast paced work environment, you need access to information fast. Running from bus to bus to download incidents cost hundreds of man hours putting pressure on budgets and leaving employees frustrated. An alternative solution is to download video over a wireless network directly to your desktop computer. You can have one employee managing all of your video incidents from the comfort of their desk instead of running out to a bus, turning the bus on, finding the incident, clipping and then downloading. With Gatekeeper wireless you get two options. You can stream video live over a cellular network from any bus any time or implement a WIFI system to download incidents when buses return to your bus yard – all prescheduled or activated by the driver alarm button. No more running out to a bus to pull an SD card or hard drive. Whichever system you choose you can be confident that Gatekeeper’s equipment is designed meet your needs.
- Live video streaming over 3G and 4G
- Modular system design to upgrade to 5G
- WIFI maximum bandwidth for fast downloading
- Industrial grade access points and in-bus radios
- Auto schedule downloads
- Download video from push of driver alarm button

Improve Operational Efficiencies – Save Time and Valuable Resources
Take advantage of wireless extraction to retrieve onboard video as soon as vehicle enters the vehicle yard’s WiFi system or view video from inside the vehicle using Cell View™ while the vehicle is out on route.
The secure download is fast and efficient, providing you with the video you need.
Gatekeeper is offering the choice of either:
• Cellular only solution
• WiFi only solution
• Cellular and WiFi solution.
Gatekeeper’s yard based WiFi system provides the bandwidth required to quickly download video. While it is technically possible to download video over a cellular connection, it is highly recommended that video be downloaded over a WiFi connection. WiFi typically provides significantly faster data speeds (typically 15 to 20 Mbps) compared to a 3G cellular connection in bound from vehicle to cell tower at 30kbps. WiFi is over 50 times the bandwidth that cellular technology provides.
Utilizing WiFi 802.11n at 5GHz Gatekeeper offers a rugged industrially rated Access Point (AP) and a rugged WiFi radio for the vehicle. The Access Point comes with 2 panel antennas that provide 10 dbi of gain each. Typically the Access Point and antennas are mounted on a mast secured to the exterior of a building. Power and network connection must be available close to the AP.
The vehicle WiFi radio includes a through-hole antenna and cable. The antenna is approximately 2.5 inches tall and is rugged to withstand vehicle washes. The vehicle antenna provides 3dbi of gain. Mounting the antenna on the roof of a vehicle will achieve excellent RF performance. The through-hole antenna provides superior performance over a stubby antenna located on the WiFi equipment within the vehicle or using a window stick on antennas. Throughput is dependent on signal strength, a well-designed WiFi infrastructure and strategically mounted antennas are critical to achieving fast download speeds.
AUTOWAKE™ is a feature that allows a user to power on/off the DVR and WiFi radio equipment in a chosen vehicle while in the yard from the comfort of their office.
This is accomplished through the addition of an optional AUTOWAKE™ module. The AUTOWAKE™ module contains a second radio that is always on listening for a control signal. This radio consumes an insignificant amount of current and will not drain the vehicle’s battery.
The user utilizes Gatekeepers AUTOWAKE™ Control application on their computer to turn on/off the DVR and WiFi radio. Once the DVR and WiFi radio is on, the user can view previously recorded video from the DVR’s hard drive via the WiFi link. The user selects the start and stop points of an incident, or a clip to be downloaded.
AUTOWAKE™ has been designed to improve operational efficiencies saving time and valuable resources. No more running to the vehicle to retrieve video.
Cell View™ (Gatekeepers Cellular System) excels at viewing video from inside the vehicle while the vehicle is out on route. Typically with a four camera DVR system, a user can expect to see approximately 5 frames a second from all cameras simultaneously. In addition to seeing live video, the geographic position of the bus is also displayed (in real time) on Google Maps.
All of Gatekeeper’s DVR’s support dual streaming. This allows for high quality, D1 resolution and full frame rate (up to 30 fps) video to be recorded to the hard drive while simultaneously streaming a lower frame rate, and lower resolution image over the cellular network.
The cellular radio (Cloud Gate) has been specifically designed for M2M (Machine to Machine) use. This means that after the cellular radio is configured, no operator input is required. Like the WiFi solution, a 3 dbi gain through hole antenna (with cable) is provided with the cellular radio and provides excellent RF performance. As with a WiFi system, good signal strength is required to achieving fast data speeds. The Gatekeeper 3 dbi cellular antenna ensures that data speeds can be maximized.
Gatekeeper’s cellular solution supports the following cellular specification:
This means the cellular radio is certified to operate on Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and T Mobile.
It is important to note that Gatekeepers cellular solution has all the required approvals to operate on the above mentioned carrier networks. If the reader is considering a cellular solution from another vendor, it is highly recommended that the other vendor provide copies of the certification documents. Operating a device without the required certifications places the end user at risk to fines, denied access to the cellular network, and/or being kicked off the cellular network.
If the reader is considering a cellular solution from another vendor, it is highly recommended that the other vendor provide copies of the certification documentation.
Server – Implementation of Wireless Functionality
For both the WiFi and Cell View Solution, a server is required. The server manages the wireless connections to the vehicles. The applications provided (CMS, ADS and MAXLOCATE™) run on the server, and are not very resource intensive. The minimum specification for a server is as follows:
• Windows Server 2008 or higher
• Dual Core CPU
• 8 GB of RAM or higher – all RAM must be matching from the same vendor
• 2 TB of Disk Space
• Network Connection 100 Base T – Gigabit is preferred if the end users network supports Gigabit speeds.
• Hosted in a server environment
• UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)
• Security – physical and network (fire wall)
• Environmental conditioning
• DHCP server available on network
• WiFi system – Private Network access to connect to Access Points
• The provided solution will transit sub nets on private network
• Cellular system – Access to Public Internet
